I found an abandoned baby in the hallway and raised him as my own son. When her biological mother, a milli0naire,

The judge ordered a recess.

I thought the case was over.

I was wrong.

When everyone started leaving the courtroom, Isabella’s lawyer approached the judge and asked permission to present one last piece of evidence.

The judge agreed.

A sealed envelope was presented.

Inside was an old hospital record seventeen years earlier.

The room became tense while the judge read it.

Then his expression changed.

He looked at Isabella.

“Ma’am. Cruz, why was this document not included in your original petition?

Isabel did not answer.

His lawyer whispered something to him.

The judge continued to read.

The document revealed that Isabella had not simply abandoned Daniel because she was scared.

She had been under enormous pressure from her rich  family.

At the time, she was nineteen. Her father had threatened to repudiate her if she stayed with him  baby because he believed that an unplanned child would damage the family’s reputation.

But there was something even more shocking.

The hospital record showed that Isabella had returned two days after Daniel’s birth.

She had held him.

She had asked for him.

And then he had signed a document that refused custody.

But underneath that document was a handwritten note.

The judge read it out loud:

“If someone good comes for him, let him love him. I don’t know how to protect him from my family.”

Isabella broke up.

“I was scared,” she whispered. “I was nineteen. My father controlled everything. I thought I could come back someday when I was strong enough.”

The judge looked at her.

“And why did you wait seventeen years?”

Isabella wiped her tears.

“Because every year I expected it made it harder.”

Then he admitted something that no one knew.

He had been secretly following Daniel’s life for years.

I had seen pictures of him online.

She knew which school she attended.

She knew about her football games.

I even knew about Mary.

“But I was ashamed,” Isabella said. “And when I finally found the courage to come back, I became convinced that money could repair what had been broken.”

Daniel looked at her in silence.

For the first time, his anger disappeared.

There was only sadness.
