My Ex-MIL Filled Her Pool With My Water—Then Refused to Pay the Huge Bill

Adrian shook his head.

“It was lying.”

That landed.

Margaret’s voice sharpened.

“I am your mother.”

“And Claire was my wife.”

“She still is the mother of my children.”

“You had no right.”

Margaret looked almost offended that the argument had moved beyond her control.

“You’re taking her side.”

Adrian replied:

“No.”

“I’m taking the side of what actually happened.”

I will remember that sentence longer than the check.

He turned toward me.

“How much is the difference on the bill?”

“I can handle it.”

“That wasn’t the question.”

I told him.

He took out his phone.

Transferred the amount to me immediately.

I looked at the notification.

“Adrian.”

“I know I didn’t use the water.”

“Then why are you paying?”

“Because I spent years blaming you for numbers I now know I never understood.”

I did not know what to say.

He added:

“This isn’t repayment for everything.”

“I know that.”

“It’s the current bill.”
