The Camera in the Nursery

Part 2 — What the Footage Revealed

The following morning, I went to work as usual.

I kissed Ethan goodbye, hugged Linda, and tried to behave normally.

But the entire drive to the office, I kept thinking about the camera.

At lunchtime, I finally opened the monitoring app.

The first few minutes were completely ordinary.

Linda prepared Ethan’s bottle. She checked his blanket. She walked around the nursery while talking softly to him.

I almost felt foolish for being suspicious.

Then her behavior changed.

Her expression became impatient when Ethan began crying.

Instead of immediately comforting him, she stood beside the crib and sighed.

“Why won’t you settle down?” she muttered.

I watched in silence.

She eventually picked him up, but her movements were noticeably less gentle than they had been earlier.

My hands tightened around my phone.

Then Linda said something that made my stomach drop.

“You’re just like your mother.”

She wasn’t speaking affectionately.

There was frustration in her voice.

Ethan continued crying, and Linda placed him back in the crib before walking away for a moment.

I couldn’t hear everything clearly, but it was obvious that something about the situation was making her increasingly irritated.

I replayed the footage.

Then I watched it again.

I realized that I had been searching for one dramatic moment when the real warning signs were much more subtle: the impatience, the dismissive attitude, the change in tone whenever Ethan became difficult to soothe.

That was when I understood something important.

The footage did not give me permission to jump to conclusions, but it gave me enough reason to take my concerns seriously.

I immediately saved the recording and contacted the professionals I trusted.

I did not call Linda in anger.

I did not threaten her.
