My Son Woke Me at 5 a.m. and Told Me My Husband Was Lowering My Suitcase Into a Hole in the Backyard – When I Looked Outside, He Wasn’t Alone

“By the way, Mom sent that message you read a few minutes ago,” Sally added.

I wanted to leave. I didn’t. I sat down hard.

“We’re doing this my way now,” I told him. “I’m calling the lawyer.”

“I pretended not to notice.”

Clara walked in wearing cream cashmere, expecting Sally to be alone.

She stopped when she saw me at the head of the table.

Clara walked in.

“Sit down, Clara.”

She laughed the way she always did, soft and syrupy.

“I understand exactly what this is about.” I slid the paperwork across the table. “This is Noah’s trust. My son’s name is on page four. Yours shouldn’t be anywhere.”

“I don’t think you understand.”

“There’s been a misunderstanding. Sally gets confused. Family doesn’t need lawyers, honey.”

“Sally isn’t confused. I’m not confused. You had her signature. You won’t have another one.”

Sally spoke for the first time, quietly but steadily.

“I want it all back, Clara. Every page.”

Clara looked to Carter for the old alliance. My husband looked at me.

The lawyer slid the reversal documents forward. She refused to sign.

“You’ll be hearing from my lawyer!” my MIL shouted before storming out.

Noah watered it very seriously with a plastic cup, spilling most of the water on his shoes.

She refused to sign.

Carter watched from the porch.

Love doesn’t grow stronger in silence. It grows stronger through honesty.

The legal battle with Clara still rages on, but things are looking good for our side.
